| Cuccinelli humbly praises himself as Attorney General for “unprecedented battles for liberty in our lifetimes.” Hmm…I’m thinking that may be a typo — perhaps he meant “unprecedented battles to squelchliberty in our lifetimes”? As in:- Squelching academic liberty by relentlessly harassing the University of Virginia because Professor Michael Mann engaged in groundbreaking climate change research. What is truly unprecedented is having a powerful state official attempting to limit the speech and research of academics whose work offends his Big Oil and Big Coal donors. I can’t think of a similarly ugly assault on the First Amendment in my lifetime.IN light of the real possibility of FRAUD by climate scientists, the AG is certainly allowed to make sure VA taxpayers’ money was not used to continue it! I do not know if there is fraud but the AG has a right to find out. I can think of at least one “similarly ugly” abuses of First Amendment rights: Speech codes on state universities. Which leads to my next comment…
The issue here is authority: Suppose a conservative student (say a blogger) accused of “harassing” one or more gay students and has to pay lawyers thousands of dollars to find out the college had NO AUTHORITY to even do this trial to start with! Maybe Blue Virginia can help take a collection for his legal defense! |
| - Fighting the Federal government to prevent the tens of millions of Americans without health insurance from having the liberty to access our health system and thereby free themselves from disabling illnesses and conditions. In Cuccinelli’s Virginia and his America, only the wealthy are entitled to lives free of disease and suffering.So it’s okay for all to have to BUY an product by order of Federal law? There will be no constitutional limits on Federal power. Let’s not even discuss how Obamacare got passed…
– Suing the EPA to block action to prevent climate change — thereby limiting the liberty of future generations, who will be deprived of the right to live on a healthy climate with a more stable climate. I am genuinely concerned about both the possibility of human caused climate change AND the solutions people have that tend to involve increasing the power to global institutions at the expense of American sovereignty and personal liberty. The case has not been proven yet and the case never will be proven such to give up liberty and sovereignty. The Constitution (next to the Bible) is the Supreme Law of the Land! – Finding that police may question anyone they’ve stopped for any reason about their immigration status — the Bill of Rights be damned! If police LEGALLY stop a person they can ask for ID (Delaware v. Prouse, 440 US 648 [1979]); logic would suggest that they can also ask about immigration status, too. I am concerned about profiling but I cannot see this as an issue of a civil rights violation absent abuse. And that’s just a sampling. With a freedom fighter like this, who needs tyrants?
